What is the aim of the Wegweiser guide?

The aim is to support those affected, their relatives, counselling centres and institutions in their search for hospices and palliative care services.

The Wegweiser guide facilitates the search for hospices and palliative care providers, and also enables them to network with other service providers.

In addition, information on the structure of services (which is not publicly available) serves scientific purposes, enables needs analysis, and represents the current care situation in Germany.

Who can post services in the guide?

The Wegweiser guide is an address and structure database exclusively designed for hospices and palliative care services. It is currently possible to post a listing for the following services, both for adults and children/adolescents:

  • PALLIATIVE CARE UNITS
  • INPATIENT HOSPICES
  • OUTPATIENT HOSPICE SERVICES
  • SPECIALIST PALLIATIVE HOME CARE SERVICE
  • SPECIALIST PALLIATIVE HOME CARE SERVICE
  • PALLIATIVE CARE DOCTORS
  • HOSPITAL PALLIATIVE CARE SUPPORT TEAM
  • PALLIATIVE CARE SERVICES
  • EDUCATIONAL OFFERS AND ASSOCIATIONS

Why are there no care facilities, nursing services, psychologists, pastoral workers etc. in the guide yet?

Many care facilities and nursing services that are currently providing high-quality palliative care have expressed an interest in creating a guide listing. However, as there are currently no transparent quality criteria which make it clear to outsiders how palliative care is structured in individual institutions, we have not yet included care facilities and nursing services in the Wegweiser guide.

In the case of nursing services, it is first necessary to establish the criteria according to which a nursing service can call itself a “palliative nursing service”. It can then create a listing in the guide.

For professional groups with the option of receiving recognised further education in the field of palliative care, creating a listing in the Wegweiser guide will become possible over the next few months. This applies in particular to, among others, nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, music therapists, and pastoral workers. However, a listing in the guide only makes sense if it is also linked to a service that can be used by people searching the guide.

How can I enter my own services in the guide?

Go to the Wegweiser home page. On the right-hand side of the page, you will see the field “I would like to create a guide listing”. Click on this field and a questionnaire will appear. FIRSTLY, ensure that you select the “Type of institution” field, as this will open the relevant questionnaire, depending on whether you wish to enter a palliative care unit, a hospice or similar.

In the title field, enter the full name of your institution so that it can later be found via the search function. Later in the questionnaire, you can create your own personal user name and password. Using these login details, you can log in at any time (top right-hand side of the website) or update your listing at any time via the ”Update listing” field (at the bottom of the website).

Please enter a valid address ONLY (and nothing else) in the address field, otherwise you will not show up in proximity searches, and no map will be displayed with your listing.

The form consists of required fields, which are marked with an asterisk, and fields that will be publicly visible under your listing. These fields are marked or highlighted in light green. The questionnaire also contains several statistical fields which we ask you to be so kind as to complete. The only way to make valid statements about the care situation in Germany, and the evolution of hospice and palliative care, is to gather a lot of data.

At the end of each questionnaire you must agree to the terms and conditions (T&Cs), and decide whether you consent to the forwarding of your data extracts to the Bertelsmann Stiftung, so that your services can also be found via the “Faktencheck-Gesundheit” and “Weiße Liste” websites. You can view both the T&Cs and the content of the agreement with the Bertelsmann Stiftung via a link in the form.

Once you have completed the form, click on the “Send” field at the bottom of the page to submit your listing to Wegweiser.

When will my listing on the Wegweiser website become visible?

Once you have submitted your listing, you will receive an automatic confirmation email to the email address you specified in the form. Once your listing has been verified and activated, you will receive another automatically generated email to the email address you specified in your Wegweiser listing.

Only once you have received these two confirmation emails will your listing become visible. From now on, you can use your login details to access and update your listing.

I have forgotten my password, what should I do?

There is a “Forgotten password”. feature next to the login function. If you click on it, you will be asked to enter your user name and the email address specified in your Wegweiser listing (only this email address is valid here!). A new password will then be sent to this email address. You can, of course, then change this new password at any time.

I have forgotten my user name, what should I do?

Then the only solution is an email to: or a call to the DGP offices (+49 (0)30 30 10 100 0).

I have entered my services already, why haven’t I received my login details?

All listings submitted to the previous version of the Wegweiser guide were sent an email with new login details to the email address specified in the listing. As many of these email addresses were no longer valid, a search was made of the current email addresses linked to these listings. It is anticipated that these institutions will receive an email with new login details by 04.07.2015 at the latest.

If you have not received new login details by 10.07.2015, you have two options:

  1. Send an email to: and request new login details (your existing login details will then be deleted).
    ODER:
  2. Simply recreate your listing (as described above) and let us know so that we can delete the old listing. It is important that you tell us exactly which listing you wish to delete. The best way to do so is to send us the corresponding link.
